Fewer days, higher intensity?#1190

Hi, looking for advice to mix up the routine to fit better in a busy schedule - partially time constraints due to work, partially I’m doing other exercises (Yoga, Climbing, Running) as well, and would just exhaust myself doubling up. At the moment I have a pretty balanced schedule, but it only lets me get to the HC routine 2, maaaaaaaybe 3 times a week.

I’ve been trying to go through all 6 core exercises in one go each time, but rotating through the sets - but I’m not sure if that’s a good approach or if there’s something better out there.

Something like the old “solid start” MWF schedule, but with the full scope of exercises as the normal suggested routine?

I think the 3-day is what I’m looking for.

I guess now I’m curious about rotating exercises vs. doing one three times in a row? I understand now the better way is the latter (i think) but curious if there’s more detail anywhere about that

Good questions! Yeah that link essentially answered your first one. As for the last, its better to perform 3 sets consecutively to better take your muscles to failure as thats one of the key factors for growth😊

Two follow-ups

  • Let’s say I do the 3-day schedule, MWF. Are there good places to put in the new ‘bonus exercises’ - either in addition or as a swap out? What’s a good way to think about those?

  • Is there a good way to switch the app over to that/make a custom schedule? There may not be, no biggie if no

For the 2nd question, not yet
For the 1st: Its probably a good idea to put those exercises at the end of your routines that you hit MWF

one last q- Does the ‘sets in a row’ also apply/matter for the Twists? If anything given it’s more stretching and less strength building I’d expect you wouldn’t want to over-do it by twisting 6 times right in a row…. but maybe that’s entirely wrong?

It wouldn’t be overdoing it. Just a tad more volume is all so itd be fine. Go for it!😁
