Hi, when doing side staggered squats there is a pinching pain on the outer side of the leg NOT being worked that is getting in the way of getting deep at all in the side staggered squat. I’m not sure if I just need more hip mobility or not. Any exercises/stretches I can do to see if it helps?

Ok so im thinking that pinching pain on the outer side of your leg could be due to tightness or limited mobility in your hips. It’s common for the non-working leg to feel a bit strained during these types of squats, especially if your hip muscles aren’t as flexible or strong as they need to be. Improving hip mobility and addressing tightness might help alleviate that pain.
Id start with hip flexor and adductor stretches. The hip flexor stretch can be done by stepping into a lunge and pushing your hips forward while keeping your chest upright. Hold each side for about 20-30 seconds. To target your inner thighs, you can try a seated butterfly stretch—sit with the soles of your feet together and gently press your knees down while keeping your back straight.
In addition, doing dynamic hip openers like leg swings can help loosen things up before squatting. Standing, swing one leg forward and backward, and then side-to-side, gradually increasing your range of motion. You might also try incorporating some 90/90 hip stretches to improve your hip rotation. Sit on the floor with one leg in front bent at 90 degrees and the other behind you bent at 90 degrees as well, then gently lean forward over your front leg.
If you’re still feeling that pinching sensation after improving mobility, you may need to adjust your stance or form in the side staggered squat. Pay attention to how wide your feet are and how you shift your weight, and make small tweaks to see if that relieves the discomfort. Try these out for a wek and lmk what you think
