Heya, Chrys here—one of the trainers here at Hybrid! Hitting a full wheel in a year is legit progress, so nice work. That sharp, tight feeling across your abdomen when you start to straighten your legs is usually just your rectus abdominis and hip-flexor fascia getting an aggressive stretch they’re not used to yet. When you shift from a bent-knee wheel to a more “open” bridge, you’re basically yanking those tissues longer while asking your glutes and lower back to keep driving the lift—a recipe for that “my abs feel like they’re going to rip” sensation.

Back off the knee-straightening for a few weeks and grease the range gradually. Pop up into the bridge, breathe deep, then inch your feet out only until you feel a strong but tolerable stretch in the front of the hips and abs—hold 5-10 seconds, walk the feet back in, rest, repeat. Between bridge sets, hit low-lunge hip-flexor stretches and some gentle cobra poses so the tissue learns to lengthen without the intense load. And keep squeezing your glutes; that posterior tilt will take a bit of tension off the front line.

If the pain is sharp, stabbing, or lingers after the set, dial it back more and give the area an extra recovery day. But a tight, burning stretch that eases as soon as you come down is perfectly normal at this stage.
