Hand placement for horizontal pullups?#1619

?

Hey, I’m currently working on the 2nd progression for the pullups and have been wondering how the hands should be placed when using a bar (like the one you put between a door frame)?

Should the palms of my hands face me or not? Seems like it’s called overhand vs underhand but which am I supposed to do here?

Thanks!

Heya, Chrys here—great question. For the horizontal pull-up progression on a doorway bar, you’ll probably want an overhand grip (palms facing away from you). That setup mimics the mechanics of a regular pull-up and builds your lats and mid-back the way the progression’s meant to. An underhand (chin-up) grip isn’t wrong—it just shifts the load more to your biceps. My take is if your goal is to stay true to the pull-up path in the Hybrid Routine, stick to overhand for your main work, and feel free to mix in underhand occasionally for variety or extra arm work.
