Balance in wall bridges#1623

B

When doing wall bridges, should I put my weight against the wall, pushing with my arms or should I put my weight on my legs, basically just standing and then bending backwards while only using my arms as support?
I feel like the second option activates my back more but I’m not sure because I’ve always been doing them like the first option.

Hey. This is Chrys, one of the trainers at Hybrid.

When you’re doing wall bridges, the main focus should be on driving through your legs and hips, not dumping all your weight into your arms. Think of your arms more as balance and support rather than the thing holding you up. If you push too much into the wall with your arms, you’re basically turning it into an upper-body press instead of a backbend. The second option you described—standing and bending back with your legs taking the load and your arms just assisting—does a better job of activating your back, hips, and posterior chain. That’s the approach I’d stick with, as long as you keep control and don’t overextend into your lower back.

Thank you. I’ll be doing it that way from now on.
