Straight Bridges Tension Headache#1821

T

Do you have any suggestions for exercises to loosen muscles causing tension headaches? I can’t do my straight bridges currently because of tight shoulders or neck from work.

Hey. This is Chrys, one of the trainers at Hybrid.

So yeah, if your neck and shoulders are getting tight from work, that can definitely contribute to tension headaches.

I’d start simple. Gentle neck stretches, shoulder rolls, chest stretches, and some upper back mobility work can all help. A lot of people who sit at a desk or look down a lot end up with tight chest muscles and upper traps, which can make the neck do more work than it wants to.

I also wouldn’t force straight bridges if they’re aggravating things. Instead, work on the areas that seem to be limiting you and revisit the bridges later.

One thing I’d pay attention to though is whether these are actually tension headaches or something else. If they’re frequent, severe, or getting worse, it’s worth talking to a healthcare professional just to be safe.

For now, focus on gently improving shoulder and upper back mobility rather than trying to push through the bridge progression. 👍
