Home Workout for Beginners (2023) Video#546

Just watched this video and wanted to ask, if I’m doing this or the Hybrid routine and for example it says that I should do pushups as one of the exercises for that day, do I just do one variation of pushups if I am a beginner to calisthenics and exercise in general?

I am asking this because that is what I initially thought but after watching the video I saw Hampton doing multiple variations of each exercise. Maybe I misunderstood and he was just showing how to do multiple variations depending on the level the viewer.

You just do one of the variations indeed - you just try them out and see which one is adequately challenging for you

They shouldn’t hurt to do, and you should be able to do at least 5 repetitions per set with solid form - but also not more than the level 3 standard of that exercise

He does just show/list multiple variations aka progressions so that everyone has a fitting starting point and so that we know what to progress towards, yes :)

Thanks for clearing up my doubt @Lars Hubmann , one question about form comes to mind though. Having the videos, pictures, descriptions, etc. that Hampton and the Hybrid Calisthenics team provide is really appreciated.

However, since he and/or the other fitness trainers are not physically here to guide me through proper forms I could be doing them incorrectly without even knowing. Is that an issue? I’m sure it is if his forms and my forms are very different but if they’re slightly different (feet a bit more apart, slightly bending back without noticing, etc) would that ruin the exercise or no? How would you recommend I could improve my form by myself?

Hey again :)

Totally valid concern to have and I’m glad you’re paying attention to doing things well, rather than just doing them!

First things first - slight deviations to “the perfect form” as portrayed are perfectly okay and might just be a matter of something suiting your structure/situation better

So if you feel like you’re doing everything mostly right, making progress, and not having any pain? I wouldn’t really worry about it

If however you feel really quite unsure or know that you aren’t quite doing things right - I can recommend filming yourself so that you can watch it back and compare it to the form on the video demo!

And even if you feel pretty sure - filming is always a good way to double check

That + just practicing the movements is all you should need really, all the best to you :)
